Colour change on photoshop

Over the last few weeks when I have been editing my photos for my magazine I have experienced some problems with my models skin colour. Due to my model having red hair, the false tan that she wears can make her skin appear a lot more orange on camera than what it is in real life. To fix this i retook some of my photos against a white background instead of against a green screen, this made it a lot easier to edit the photos as there was no green glare on my model. Her skin had less orange tones because of this, however to further lighten her skin up I changed the brightness and contrast.
Photo taken against green background- models skin looks orange.
Photo taken against white background- models skin is less orange and easier to work with.

I further edited my photos by going to 'Image'- 'Adjustments' - 'Brightness/ contrast' and I moved around the dials until I was happy with the final result.

Number colour change

Originally on my contents page I used red coloured font for the number pages on the photos, however after looking at it from a distance I noticed that this colour was not very visible or eye catching. To fix this I changed the font colour to white, this still fits into my original colour theme and makes the number a lot more visible.

Centering text on my contents page

To make my contents page look professional I needed to centre all of my text and make it equal distance from the edge of the page. To do this I clicked on the view button in the top corner of the window, scrolled down to show and selected 'Grid' in the drop down box and then clicked on extras. This puts a grid over your whole page so that you can move text to be aligned with the lines.

Storylines for my contents page

I found that coming up with storylines for my contents page was quite hard, I wanted my storylines to fit into the theme of the magazine. However, the Rolling Stone magazine has world news storylines and generally features older artists and bands. To make my theme of my magazine clear I added storylines that would appeal to both old and young readers. Bands like Fleetwood Mac and Paramore are both included to appeal to a wider audience. My magazine does not feature world news articles unlike Rolling Stone.

Added details on my contents page

Whilst doing my research, I discovered that the Rolling Stone magazine contents page has a very similar theme to what I want for my magazine. Originally when doing my contents page I noticed that compare to the Rolling Stone contents my magazine did not have similar enough theme. To fix this I added small details like centring all of my text and adding small separation lines of varying opacities. This made my contents page look more like the one that I was modelling it off.

Retaking my photos

For my contents page I had to retake my photos of my female model, I had to do this because the original photos that I took were on a green screen and I wanted a more natural looking shot for my contents page. To fix this I retook the photos using the same model against a brick background.

Text writing on the front cover

Originally I used a red font for my storylines of my magazine, however the red font on the black background did not look very clear. The storylines were not visible from a far and the red in the magazine was too over powering. To fix this problem I changed the text to a white font, this white font on the black of the models clothes looks a lot more clear. I still wanted some of the text on the front cover to be red so I have the models names and masthead in red.
